About our Practice

The practice is headed by Dr. Charles A. Garcia and Dr. Rania Tabet.  Dr. Garcia is an ophthalmologist with an international reputation as a physician and surgeon.   Dr. Garcia was a professor at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston and has taught medical students, residents, and post doctoral physicians in specialty training as well as post residency surgical instruction and clinical practice.  

Dr. Garcia has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, numerous book chapters and three textbooks about retinal diseases.  He has participated in medical research for more than 50 years including landmark studies on diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and retinitis pigmentosa.  He is a leader in the medical and surgical management of retinal problems.  For more than 50 years Dr. Garcia has been a pioneer in the newest device technology and research and has helped to establish standards by which ophthalmologists world wide use to treat and diagnose patients.  The Retinal Vascular Center established in 1985 has hosted a a training program for pre and post doctoral physicians both on a national and international stage.

 

Dr. Rania Tabet is a retina and cataract surgeon, where she brings her expertise and passion for eye health. With extensive training and experience in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, she is at the forefront of her field, delivering personalized care to each patient she serves.   Dr. Tabet's training in medicine began at Université St Joseph (USJ) Faculty of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon, where she earned her M.D. degree and specialized in Clinical Forensics. She continued her training with clinical fellowships and research positions at esteemed institutions such as The University of Texas McGovern Medical School at Houston, under the mentorship of renowned ophthalmologists like Charles A. Garcia, MD and Nan Wang, MD. Throughout her career, Dr. Tabet has garnered recognition for her outstanding contributions to ophthalmology, including being awarded the Richard S. Ruiz, M.D., Outstanding Fellow in Ophthalmology. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the French Society of Ophthalmology.  She is also an active member of her community and local church and participates in various community events throughout the year serving the Houston area.  Dr. Tabet's dedication to advancing eye care is evident through her extensive research and presentations on various eye conditions and treatments. Her publications in leading ophthalmology journals and presentations at national and international conferences reflect her commitment to staying at the forefront of her field. In addition to her expertise in ophthalmology, Dr. Tabet is fluent in English, French, Arabic, and medical Spanish, allowing her to effectively communicate with patients from diverse backgrounds.
